“small town moon” (my maybe favorite) crescendoes way harder live, “how” is 10x more interesting live (the thing about that song is it sounds like every single first wedding dance that has ever been danced, the thing about it live is it’s being sung by regina fucking spektor so irrespective of melody the voice is out of goddamn control (by of course being in control; she is never off, fuck, she’s like she is on recording only more and more deeply felt)), “the party” is much richer and sadder live (like despite its crescendo and musical optimism it’s very obviously dedicated to people she lost), the new “ne me quitte pas” is more focally vocal and less like an enchanted number, and “ballad of a politician”, not my favorite of the album, is—or was today—gorgeous and bitter and unspeakably tense

also she’s a beautiful fidgety self-deprecating pocket-sized weirdo and she’s going on a tour in russia which will be the first time she’s going back to russia since she was a child and i’m weeping that i’m not in russia even more than usual
