plays-with-squirrels asked, "top 3 asoiaf women, top 3 decemberists songs, top 3 gifts that you've ever received, top 3 things that you're proud of, top 3 six lines"

lainey

ASOIAF DAMES

  1. (by a mile) CERSEI
  2. Sansa
  3. Asha

DECEMBERISTS SONGS

  1. Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
  2. The Tain
  3. The Rake’s Song

GIFTS

  1. Tea at the Browns Hotel
  2. the complete discography of Rufus Wainwright
  3. this is really hard my family doesn’t really give gifts that are things and we’re really bad at holidays, i.e. we just buy shit for each other year-round—I mean, trips, shows, books, and food; what else could you even ask for—and when holiday time comes we spend a month’s worth of prevaricating “oh you don’t have to get me anything big” and spend Christmas/birthdays shoving small parcels at each other with confused smiles, so when it comes time to list gifts my entire life I’ve been like, uhhhhhh. Serious essay question-and-answer prompts I answered in elementary school: “Favorite gift you’ve ever been given?” “CAT ASTROLOGY: THE BOOK. :D :D :D!!”

PRIDE POINTS

  1. Talking at a research conference for a department I wasn’t even technically a member of at the time for reasons of RENAISSANCE SORCERESSES
  2. Catseye liner becoming like a mechanical skill at this point even though I have DT-level shaky hands
  3. The fact that I can write novels, have receipts about my ability to do so, and am now engaged in the process of writing good novels, which only get better as I write more

SIX LINES

Cheating about it, so:

CAPRICA SIX LINES:

  • “You have an amazing capacity for self-deception. How do you do that?”
  • “I’m a little stiff. I’m still trying to get used to this body. I mean, I know it’s identical, but—even after all this time, I still feel awkward.” (SIXES AND THEIR BODIES. CAPRICA TRYING TO NEGOTIATE A BODY WITHOUT A MISSION. COULD WEEP.)
  • “I want the pain. It’s how I learn. I was instrumental in the destruction of humanity, but at the same time I learned, because I fell in love with a human man, and he was mortal and fallible. And he had this incredible pride in himself. He thought he knew everything there was to know. And I loved him, with my whole heart. And then one day, I realized I wouldn’t have him forever. I understood what I’d done. How I betrayed him and humanity. And that pain taught me to understand death. Baltar could die. And I loved him. Baltar’s heart was ephemeral. Baltar’s body was fragile in my hands.” (THERE ARE LIKE THREE LINES HERE WHICH ARE MY FAVORITE LINE, SO YOU GET THE WHOLE SPEECH. S4 is on some fucking shit with her, but she gets this.)

NONCAPRICA SIX LINES

  • “Are you alive?”
  • In our civil war, we’ve seen death. We’ve watched our people die. Gone forever. As terrible as it was beyond the reach of the resurrection ships, something began to change. We could feel a sense of time, as if each moment held its own significance. We began to realize that for our existence to hold any value, it must end. To live meaningful lives, we must die and not return. The one human flaw that you spend your lifetimes distressing over… Mortality is the one thing… Well, it’s the one thing that makes you whole. “
  • She has needs, just like the rest of us. No one can survive entirely on their own. Trust me Lieutenant, in the end, we’re all just human.”

HEADSIX LINES

  • “My God, Gaius, it’s me.”
  • “The pain is only in your body—so keep your body here with me.”
  • “I have your heart. I can always rip it out of your chest if I want to.”

This is simultaneously totally cheating and not cheating at all.

  1. Paris is Burning
  2. The Neighbours
  3. The Apocalypse Song
  4. Cruel
  5. Northern Lights or Cheerleader orrrrr Your Lips Are Red even though that track genuinely scares me sometimes or any time I get to watch Annie Clark sing punk covers live

plenilune:

hello, internet! here’s the deal: I live in a dreary little town with few opportunities and an overwhelming cultural air of apathy, and am currently climbing out of years of built-up clinical depression. my goal this summer is to save a great deal of money and finally move out on my own. (terrifying, amirite?) one of the things I am doing to earn this money is record music. (I have an album coming out at some point, featuring songs about various fandoms, subway faeries, and the joys of drinking alone, among other things, which I need a little more funds to be able to record and distribute. more on that later.) (another thing I am doing is running an eBay shop.) I play a few open mics in town and have a block party gig next month, which is pretty exciting, but at the moment I really need financial support, especially until my tax refund gets here. (for one thing, my eBay payments don’t clear for over two weeks after they’re paid. I made a bunch of money on eBay this week and won’t be able to access it until the end of the month.)
so: I could use a little money in my pocket, both right now and over the course of the summer. I don’t like asking for money straight up, though, which is why I prefer to create goods someone might want to purchase. I have written songs about Doctor Who, Dollhouse, Being Human, and Echo Bazaar, an entire album of traditional ballads about vampires, and have covered everything from Amanda Palmer to Bob Dylan to Anastasia to John Donne. I’m also offering myself up for performances — parties, weddings, geeky festivities, you name it — to anyone in the Pittsburgh region willing to pay and negotiate re. transportation. and, hey, I won’t rule out commissions! got a song you want to exist but you’re not a songwriter or musician? need a closing song for your student film? we can talk about it!
(I also make graphics! if you need a website header or a promotional poster or something of the like, I’m here. but I digress.)
anyway. help a geek girl out?
love and gratitude,Jo

Jo has a gorgeous honey alto and sings songs about all the things you never knew you wanted songs about. Go listen.
