"Hey, you...guy. The dames, eh? Yeah, the dames. Stupid dames. You having any luck with the horses? No, the horses are all...idiots. You know, between the dames and the horses, sometimes I don't even know why I put my hat on."
That's how people talk in bars, isn't it?
When the MPAA took their scissors to the fight scene, the thing that they objected to the most was not the beating of Alabama, but it was Alabama fighting back, which is very strange. The MPAA literally said, “Ok you gotta get rid of that, I just can’t deal with that.” And I go, “Why? She’s fighting back. She’s the hero.” “Well, it’s because she becomes an animal.” “Well that’s the fucking point!” It got to the point of actual story content that they were trying to eliminate.
-Quentin Tarantino on the “True Romance” commentary
“I look back and am amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true, that three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record: you’re so cool, you’re so cool, you’re so cool.”
True Romance (1993)
I had to come all the way from the highways and byways of Tallahassee, Florida to Motor City, Detroit to find my true love. If you gave me a million years to ponder, I would never have guessed that true romance and Detroit would ever go together. And to this day, the events that followed all seem like a distant dream. But the dream was real and was to change our lives forever. I kept asking Clarence why our world seemed to be collapsing and everything seemed so shitty. And he’d say, ‘That’s the way it goes, but don’t forget, it goes the other way too.’ That’s the way romance is. Usually, that’s the way it goes. But every once in awhile, it goes the other way too.
